So much gorgeous cake!!!

Newcastle cake decorating…

One of the (many) perks of being a photographer is being exposed to so many gorgeous things!

Cute newborn babies and kids, fabulously inspiring small business owners, skincare products, artworks, clothing, jewellery, homewares, flowers and yummy food related things to name a few…

Yummy food is one of my favourites to photograph lately… Sometimes macarons, bliss balls, raw vegan treats, sometimes things I have made myself, but occasionally ~~ CAKE!

Sweet, gorgeous, amazing tasty cake…

Occasionally a lovely lady knocks at your door one Thursday morning with EIGHT cakes… A little while later another lovely lady drops by with arrangements of divine flowers… And for many hours throughout two really hot days you almost drown yourself in cake and flowers and take hundereds of photos. You stress about dropping cakes and ruining them (the big ones are really heavy!) You stress about cutting the cake (because it looks so pretty and you don’t want to ruin it…) and you need to be REALLY sure you are done with the photos before you can eat anything.

You chase a new baby kitten away many times (it seems she is quite fond of sugar herself!) and then you make friends by sharing the cake once you are done taking the photos.

Then several days later, after running out of the portion of cake you kept for yourself, you wish you hadn’t given it all away as there is nothing for dessert…

Naked cakes (where the cake isn’t fully iced) and the drip effect from the icing are quite popular at the moment and if you add a selection of macarons, meringues, cookies and brownie on top then things start to look really fun! The fab team at fifi la femme hired me to take pics of their new range and once I was done photographing this particular cake I couldn’t resist taking off all of the goodies on top (and eating several for lunch) and styling things up to create a floral drip cake…

I wont quite quit my day job and call myself a floral designer just yet, but I am pretty impressed with my efforts 🙂
